For you spectators dealing with money, keep in mind, those cybercriminals are after you as well. So, to show my love of the game, I thought I would share my sporty side through some game insights each week related to my favorite teams across various sports.

This week, I thought I would share what is, in my opinion at least as a soccer fan, the most exciting thing happening in Los Angeles sports right now. Here in the shadows of Hollywood and just off the Santa Monica Bay beaches, the Los Angeles Galaxy signed Marco Reus. Why is this such a major event? He is arguably one of the best German soccer players of all time. And, Germany is known for their insanely good soccer players!

Marco Reus is an attacking midfielder who is best known for his creativity and technical skills on the ball. All of the true LA soccer fans are ecstatic for the luck that he has opted to come to the City of Angels on a free (yes, free and therefore affordable) transfer after his contract expired with the Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund. 

This 34 year old, Marco Reus, is really great (did I already say that? Well, he IS!). He has had a very successful career winning major awards throughout his time at Dortmund such as player of the year in the Bundesliga (German league) three times, German player of the year two times, and named to the best eleven in the world for three years! 

His debut in Los Angeles reminded me a bit of Zlatan Ibrahimović’s debut with the LA Galaxy, in that he entered the game late, controlled the pace and won the game in the end. I believe Marco Reus came on for his debut with the Galaxy knowing he’d be one thing…a game changer. 

And that’s exactly what he was! He entered the game against Atlanta in the 62^nd minute with the score 0-0. He finished the game with a goal and assist; he showed his class as he was so composed and looked amazing on the ball. He gave the LA Galaxy a sense of calmness and helped them become a bigger threat on attack. 

Watching him play, it was as if he glided around the field; you barely saw him run. He seemingly was just jogging around the field wherever he wanted and yet he was by far the player with the most quality on the field – being in the right place when it counted. For the twenty-eight minutes he played, you could tell that he was a couple steps ahead of everyone based on his movement on and off the ball, his technique, and his clever distributions.

In the end, he led the LA Galaxy to a big 2-0 win which helped the Galaxy maintain their first place standing in the Major League Soccer (MLS) US Western Conference. With this quietly effective debut performance, it was obvious at least to all of us armadillo fans, that he had won not only player of the game but also would be named to the MLS team of the week. 

Bottom “sporty” line, Marco Reus did not disappoint the fans of Los Angeles who now have even more hope of bringing home the MLS Cup, with the help of this veteran.

Bottom “techy” line, remember, everyone, including athletes, managers, and sponsors are at risk of these pesky (and evermore sophisticated) cybercriminal lures that trick people into mis-sending wire transfers.
